Weight Loss Surgery (Bariatrics)
Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital (866) 409-1611
Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital brings its warm and highly supportive style of care to patients undergoing surgery to aid in their goal of losing weight. Patients who are more than 100 pounds over their ideal weight or who have a body mass index (BMI) greater than 40 percent may benefit from this innovative approach to weight loss. Bariatric surgery, also known as gastric-bypass surgery, reduces the amount of food the stomach can take in and contain, helping patients eat less and gradually lose excess weight.
The Weight-Loss Surgery Program at Sutter Auburn Faith was established in 2001 and has helped many patients successfully lose weight and achieve better overall health. The program offers patients a skilled and highly experienced team that cares for patients at every step of their journey. Care begins by determining if surgery is the right choice and continues through education and support designed to ensure long-term success. Surgery is performed by bariatric expert Jeffrey Jenkins, MD, an advanced laparoscopic surgeon who has received extensive training in gastric bypass surgery and gastric banding. Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital is fully equipped to provide complete care during and after surgery, with care delivered by a nursing staff experienced in working with weight-loss surgery patients.
In addition to surgical and nursing staff, patients receive individual care from dieticians and psychologists who understand the particular issues and challenges bariatric patients face. Patients also attend a monthly surgical support group led by the program coordinator.
