Hospice is made possible by a vital and dedicated staff and trained volunteers committed to caring for terminally ill patients and their families at home. The emphasis of hospice care is on pain control and symptom management, and emotional support, enabling patients to live out their lives with dignity and comfort, surrounded by the people and things they love. Because end-of-life care presents a tremendous emotional, physical and financial burden on family and friends, hospice fills the gaps to allow those close to the patient to worry less about the details of care and more about the important emotional and spiritual needs of the patient and family.

Hospice care is provided in the home, home-like setting, or skilled nursing facility and is staffed by a medical director, chaplain, nurses and aides, medical social workers, bereavement coordinator, and a team of trained volunteers.
Hospice services are available to all individuals facing a terminal illness who reside within the hospital's service area and who have caregivers available as needed. Cost for care is covered by Medicare, Medi-Cal, most insurance companies, and long-term care policies. However, hospice services are not based upon a person's ability to pay. Sutter Auburn Faith Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice is generously supported through the Sutter Auburn Faith Foundation, the charitable arm of the hospital. Funding is provided by memorial donations, memberships, individual contributions, bequests and fund-raising activities.
